Darby Allin Injury Update

Things don’t look good for Darby Allin.

Former TNT Champion Darby Allin was rushed to the hospital following his Continental Classic Gold League match against Kevin Knight two weeks ago on AEW Dynamite. Initial reports suggested Darby was banged up after a coast-to-coast spot. However, a new update paints a far more concerning picture.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Allin suffered a head injury from a “singular blow” and not from the coast-to-coast dropkick.

“Darby Allin was hospitalized after his match with Kevin Knight on 11/26,” Meltzer wrote. “What we know is that it was a head injury. It was a singular blow and not wear and tear as God knows probably every part of his body is probably on the verge of something bad due to what he puts it through. It was not from the coast-to-coast dropkick.”

What caused Darby Allin’s injury?

Meltzer attributed the injury to a “real bad fall” during the match but did not identify the exact spot. He added that AEW is holding off on issuing an official announcement until they determine whether Darby can return in time for the upcoming episode of Collision.

Noting that head injuries have no set recovery timeline, Meltzer wrote that Allin could return as early as the next episode of AEW Dynamite — or he may be out for months. In the worst-case scenario, it could mirror Adam Cole’s year-long absence, or even result in him “never” returning.

Meltzer also stated he could see Tony Khan putting someone else in Darby’s spot in the Continental Classic. He mentioned Komander, Murtos, Bandido, and Sammy Guevara as potential replacements, however, this part seemed to be speculation and not an official report.

“The only thing we do know for sure is that if Allin can’t continue, and he has been doing better after a very concerning post-show after the Knight match, that it won’t be a series of forfeits and it will be like last year where somebody is put in that spot,” the report concluded.
