CJ Perry has provided a new update on her in-ring career, clarifying her earlier statement about retirement.
Speaking on TMZ’s Inside The Ring, CJ Perry (AKA Lana), who’s currently with WWE under a legend’s deal, said that she was being sarcastic when she recently claimed she was retired from in-ring competition on former WWE star Sonya Deville’s podcast.
“I think when I said I retired, I was being very sarcastic. Because they let me go at 36, so I just claimed ‘apparently I retired at 36.’ I think that’s really young.
CJ Perry then revealed that she’d love to wrestle again, but noted that she brings in more value to a promotion as an on-screen manager. She believes she does well at promoting other talent and telling a story, and expressed her interest in reuniting with her husband, Rusev, on WWE television.
“I would love to wrestle again, but I do believe that my money pocket and what I add the most value to wrestling companies is talking and promoting their talent.
“At the end of the day, we’re in the business of promotion, CJ Perry continued, “If you watch the McMahon documentary, if you watch Logan and Jake Paul talk about boxing and wrestling, we’re in the business of selling tickets and promoting. That’s why Logan and Jake are so good at what they do. It’s because they know how to tell stories, and they know how to promote, and they know how to make it really entertaining at that.
“I believe I do well at those things and, you know, (speaking in a Russian accent) Lana knows she can help Rusev.”
When asked if she missed performing, CJ Perry said:
“Are you kidding me? I miss it so much. I feel like a drug addict a little bit. There’s no high and no adrenaline rush like that in the world.”
