The main event of tonight’s WWE NXT Gold Rush special at The Theater in Madison Square Garden ended with a shocking title change and a major betrayal.
Tatum Paxley had been WWE NXT Women’s champion since winning the title from Jacy Jayne at Halloween Havoc. But ever since then, tension had grown between Tatum and Izzi Dame. Izzi kept warning Tatum to stop giving out random title shots, especially after Tatum offered Lola Vice a match that only ended in a disqualification when Fatal Influence interfered.
Despite the warnings, Tatum once again ignored Izzi and granted Jacy Jayne a rematch at Gold Rush. That decision ended up costing her. During the match, Jacy nearly won after landing a rolling elbow, but Tatum kicked out at two.
Following this, Jacy Jayne asked Lainey to grab the title , but just in time Izzi attacked Lainey and then handed the belt to Tatum. Tatum hesitated to use it, and Fallon climbed onto the apron, causing even more chaos.
Jacy Jayne then grabbed the title, but the referee stopped her. Tatum Paxley rolled Jacy up with an pin, but only got a near fall leaing to Paxley going out at ringside. However, Shawn Spears and Niko Vance blocked her from re-entering the ring. Izzi Dame then superkicked Paxley, shoved her back inside and Jayne hit another rolling elbow for the win.
Izzi Dame’s betrayal directly cost Tatum Paxley the title, ending her reign and giving Jacy Jayne the title again. This confirmed that Tatum Paxley is officially out of their faction, The Culling.
