AJ Styles Says He’d Love a One-on-One Match with CM Punk in WWE

AJ Styles says he would love to face CM Punk in a one-on-one match in WWE before he steps away from the ring for good.

Speaking on the No-Contest Wrestling Podcast, Styles was asked about the long-awaited dream match fans still want to see, AJ Styles vs. CM Punk in WWE.

“Oh, I would love to work Punk, I think it’d be great. Our style is very much the same. We’ve wrestled each other, you know, 20 years ago, and to throw it back to be able to do it again, one-on-one match, I think it’d be a lot of fun.”

However, Styles made it clear that the decision isn’t up to him.

“I don’t know if it’s gonna happen because we don’t ride the stuff. You know, but, you know, if it’s there, it’s there. If it isn’t, it isn’t. It’s just like you said, I could ride off into the sunset and be okay with it.”

He then talked about retirement and said he doesn’t feel the need for a big farewell tour. Styles said that he does want to do things his own way, but doesn’t need a huge sendoff. Styles also explained that he recently reminded himself how lucky he is to retire by choice.

“That’s the thing: a lot of people don’t get to retire; they have to retire. And I get to. So I’m just going to enjoy, you know, what time I have left. And if I have to, you’ll never have to know I’m gone, I’ll just be like, “Oh, yeah, by the way, I’ve retired,” you know, and I’m okay with that.”
