Former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega has admitted that he’s been thinking about retirement, especially after his recent health issues.
In an interview with NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi on NJPW World, Omega said his illness made him think about how he’d like his wrestling career to end. “Honestly, I’ve been thinking about retirement since my illness. Like, how would I want things to end. If my stomach was really bad, I think that Wrestle Dynasty Gabe Kidd match honestly would have been a good end. But I won, and I was happy with the performance. It would have been a good last match, but I felt I could still go, so it’ll be a little while yet (before I retire).” [H/T: Fightful]
Tanahashi mentioned that watching Omega’s match with Kidd was emotional and even made him cry. Omega agreed, saying Kidd wrestles with real passion and that he could feel the emotion during their match. He said, “But Gabe is still on the rise, but he’s a great wrestler.”
Kenny Omega returned to wrestling on January 2025, after being out for over a year due to diverticulitis. He made his comeback at AEW Dynasty in Japan, defeating Gabe Kidd in a memorable match. Since then, he’s been wrestling less often.
Omega’s most recent match was on the October 15 episode of AEW Dynamite, where he teamed up with Jurassic Express to defeat The Don Callis Family’s Hechicero, Josh Alexander & Mark Davis.
