Chris Jericho Abandons Recent Trademark

Chris Jericho has abandoned the trademark for a term he filed in April 2024.

Amid rumors of a potential AEW exit and WWE return, Chris Jericho has abandoned the trademark for the term “The Jericho Vortex,” which he filed on April 12, 2024.

The term came into existence after some of Jericho’s critics argued that throughout his run with AEW, the wrestlers who worked with the inaugural AEW World Champion got dragged into a lengthy and unnecessary feud with him.

While Chris Jericho had trademarked the term, intending to use it for storyline and merchandise purposes, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) website states that the trademark is officially dead as of October 20, 2025, since Jericho didn’t file the “Statement of Use or Extension Request” within six months after the issue of the Notice of Allowance.

The status reads, “Abandoned because no Statement of Use or Extension Request was timely filed after Notice of Allowance was issued.”

This adds fuel to the speculation that Chris Jericho could indeed be on his way out of All Elite Wrestling and return to WWE. He is reportedly getting significant interest from several global companies, including WWE.

However, Jericho is still under contract with AEW through the end of the year, and has not announced any plans. Tony Khan, however, recently said the door is open for Jericho to return to AEW when he’s able to do so.

Chris Jericho Addressed The Jericho Vortex Allegations

Chris Jericho addressed the Jericho Vortex allegations when he spoke to Chris Van Vliet on his INSIGHT podcast earlier this year. He stated that he wants to build people up and named MJF and Daniel Garcia, among others, as stars who reached a higher level in AEW after working with him.

“I always love the concept of the Jericho Vortex and how anybody that works with me gets dragged down. Name one. Name one person that got dragged down from working with me. Maybe afterwards they didn’t go higher, but that’s not up to me. I’m not in charge of booking the entire company.

“All I can do is influence the storylines that I work on,” Chris Jericho said. “But everybody that I can think of who worked with me certainly went to a higher level. I did a year with MJF and look where he’s at, Danny Garcia, Sammy Guevara, Daddy Magic last week comes off of commentary and gets a big pop. Who do you think put him in that position?”
