Abdullah The Butcher’s Legacy In Pro Wrestling
Abdullah the Butcher made his pro wrestling debut in 1958 and was a major attraction throughout the 1970s and ’80s, competing across several territories.
He had his last match at a GCW event in October 2010 and had a formal retirement ceremony in Japan in February 2019. He got inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2011.
However, his legacy became tainted following the end of his in-ring career. In 2011, an independent wrestler named Devon Nicholson filed a lawsuit against The Butcher for giving him Hepatitis C by cutting him with a blade without his consent during a match in 2007. Abdullah the Butcher had to pay $2.3 million in damages when the court ruled in Nicholson’s favor.
