AEW Dynamite Results:

This week’s episode of Dynamite kicks off with a video recap of Saturday’s WrestleDream pay-per-view. They also air Hangman Page’s post-show comments, where he said he is going to ruin Samoa Joe’s life for what The Opps did to him after their match at WrestleDream.

AEW World Trios Championship: The Opps (c) vs. The Hurt Syndicate

  • The finish of the match saw Ricochet get involved and distract MVP, leading to Samoa Joe locking Porter in the Coquina Clutch to win the match for his team via submission.

Winners: And still AEW World Trios Champions, The Opps

After the match, The Opps take off after The Demand and chase them backstage. Tony Schiavone gets into the ring and asks Samoa Joe why he and The Opps did what they did to Hangman Page Saturday night at WrestleDream.

Samoa Joe cuts a heel promo on the crowd in Texas and says he’s still on the hunt for Hangman Page and the AEW World Championship. Surprisingly, Page didn’t come out during this promo.

Grade: B+

This was a fun opener with a surprising result. I, like many others, assumed Hangman Page would make good on his word and cost Samoa Joe his title tonight, but instead, the feud between The Hurt Syndicate and The Demand continues for some reason. I’m not really sure why; it seemed like a definitive end at the pay-per-view, but here we are. Oh well…

The match is on for AEW Full Gear

AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander is backstage with Renee Paquette. Kris Statlander puts over Toni Storm for their match at WrestleDream before shifting her focus to Mercedes Moné. Statlander informs Mercedes that she’s not the same woman that she beat the last time they met in a match. Statlander accepts Moné’s challenge for a match next month at Full Gear.

Darby Allin refused to quit at WrestleDream

Darby Allin makes his way to the ring to speak to the crowd. Allin says that before he climbed Mount Everest, a lot of people were saying he was irresponsible because he was putting himself in a position to get killed. Allin disagrees and says he’s willing to go to places that others won’t.

Darby says he isn’t stupid and knows that the Death Riders aren’t going to go away, and says as long as they are breathing, he won’t be far behind.

We get a video package from Jurassic Express, making it clear that they are coming after the AEW World Tag Team Titles.

Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford vs. Jamie Hayter and Queen Aminata vs. Harley Cameron and Willow Nightingale vs. Julia Hart and Skye Blue

  • The finish of the match saw Jamie Hayter and Queen Aminata hit a double team maneuver on Penelope Ford. Hayter scored the pinfall victory for her team.

Winners: Jamie Hayter and Queen Aminata

After the match, Jamie Hayter announces that they have chosen Skye Blue and Julia Hart as their first-round opponents in the Women’s Tag Team Title tournament.

Grade: B

Another surprising outcome tonight. I thought that after the Tailgate Brawl this weekend that Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford would get their win back tonight. That was surely not the case. However, I like the first round matchup. So it should be pretty entertaining. I can’t wait to see what the brackets look like later tonight.

Another money match for the Young Bucks

Backstage, we see the Young Bucks pounding on Tony Khan’s door, begging for another money match, claiming they’ll face anyone and team with anyone to make it happen. They briefly speak with Renee Paquette before TK actually comes out and accepts their proposal, booking an all-star 8-man tag this Saturday on Collision, which will pit Jurassic Express and JetSpeed against the Young Bucks and FTR.

FTR comes out of Khan’s office, and the Young Bucks try to clear the air so they can all get along and win some money. Stokely makes fun of them and hands them a dollar before they walk away.

Mercedes Moné’s 12 belt celebration doesn’t go according to plan

Renee Paquette is in the ring and tries to bring out Mercedes Moné for her 12 belt celebration. However, the Moné puppet comes out from under the table and cuts a promo for the CEO.

This brings out the real Mercedes Moné, who gets in the ring and tells Renee to get out before turning her attention to the puppet. Moné asks Harley Cameron what she’s doing and questions why people want to mock her after everything she’s done for women’s wrestling.

Moné calls Cameron pathetic and questions if she’s that desperate for attention, noting that tonight is about her. Mercedes says she’s tired of the disrespect and piefaces the puppet into her cake. Moné tries to attack Cameron, but she’s jumped by Kris Statlander, who puts her through the cake and the table.

We get a video package featuring Jon Moxley following his loss to Darby Allin Saturday night at WrestleDream. Moxley makes it abundantly clear that his rivalry with Allin is far from over.

Kyle O’Reilly vs. Jon Moxley (w/ Marina Shafir)

  • The finish of the match saw Kyle O’Reilly lock Jon Moxley in an ankle lock. Instead of tapping out, Moxley decks the referee, leading to a disqualification.

Winner: Kyle O’Reilly

After the match, the Conglomeration hits the ring and brawls with Moxley as a group of referees attempts to maintain order.

Grade: A-

Disqualification or not, this is probably the biggest win of O’Reilly’s AEW career. The slow downfall of Moxley that Allin began at WrestleDream on Saturday will seemingly play out in front of our very eyes over the next several weeks. I’m really enjoying the direction things are going in, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Orange Cassidy, Mark Briscoe, and Roderick Strong vs. The Death Riders

  • The finish of the match saw Mark Briscoe hit Wheeler Yuta with the Jay Driller to score the pinfall victory for his team.

Winners: Orange Cassidy, Mark Briscoe, and Roderick Strong

After the match, PAC hits the ring but is cut off by Tomohiro Ishii, who stands his own until Shafir hits him with a low blow. The Death Riders go after Cassidy, and Castagnoli planned to launch him from the ring through the commentator’s table, but Darby Allin hit the ring with a pipe and took out Castagnoli’s knee, and was followed up by an Orange Punch from Cassidy that sent the Death Riders running.

Grade: B+

Back-to-back losses for the Death Riders? I’m shocked in a good way. I genuinely didn’t see this coming either, and I love it. When you can’t predict everything on a wrestling show, it makes everything immensely better, and tonight has certainly kept me on my toes. I’m loving tonight’s episode of Dynamite.

A dangerous alliance has been formed…

Alicia Atout is backstage with Mercedes Moné, who is freaking out over being humiliated tonight. The cake is still all over her. This brings in Athena, who pitches the idea to Mercedes that the two of them should team up to become the first AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions. Mercedes agrees, and Athena tells her it’s time for Minion training, which she doesn’t seem overly thrilled about.

One more shot?

AEW TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher and Don Callis make their way to the ring. Kyle Fletcher brags about beating Mark Briscoe at WrestleDream and says they are done and he doesn’t have anything left to prove. Fletcher says he could beat Briscoe a million more times if he felt like it.

This brings out Mark Briscoe, who says he doesn’t need a million more matches and asks for just one more shot at the title. Don Callis says Briscoe sounds desperate and calls family a financial burden. Callis says Briscoe won’t get another match with Fletcher and leaves. Briscoe and Fletcher stand face-to-face as Kyle tells Mark to get to the back of the line.

The official brackets for the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Title Tournament are revealed.

For those who don’t want to watch the video, the first round action is as follows:

  • Queen Aminata and Jamie Hayter vs. The Sisters of Sin
  • Mercedes Moné and Athena vs. Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron
  • Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa vs. Riho and Alex Windsor
  • Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford vs. TayJay

There is a backstage confrontation between Mina Shirakawa and Thekla. A match is set up between these two women for Collision.

AEW Unified Championship: Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Bandido

  • The finish of the match saw Kazuchika Okada hit Bandido with the Rainmaker to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: And still AEW Unified Champion, Kazuchika Okada

Grade: A

After the match, the rest of the Don Callis Family hit the ring to celebrate with Okada. However, Konosuke Takeshita comes out on his own and appears to be ready to confront Okada. But as he makes his way to the ring, he’s talked down by Callis and Fletcher as Dynamite goes off the air.

AEW Dynamite Review:

Wow! I really enjoyed tonight’s episode of Dynamite. Typically, these post-PPV episodes aren’t particularly strong as the company slowly begins to set the table for their next pay-per-view, but tonight didn’t feel like that at all. We got a lot of really good matches with some very surprising results to boot.

Not to mention a lot of great segments to already begin the build to Full Gear next month, as well as the women’s tag team title tournament. They capped the show off with a phenomenal main event. I think this was one of the strongest post-show episodes of Dynamite in the history of AEW. More of this, please!

Grade: A

It’s also worth noting that they made sure to let us know that they have a pretty stacked lineup for Collision this Saturday night, which sounds like it should be a very fun event. Stay tuned to WrestleZone for those spoilers later on this evening.
