John Cena has reacted to former WWE star Matt Cardona’s in-ring return on NXT.
Cardona competed on this week’s episode of WWE NXT, facing Josh Briggs in his first WWE match in five years. The former Zack Ryder built a strong reputation on the independent circuit. He joined the current WWE NXT vs. TNA storyline, coming in as part of the TNA roster.
Last week, Cardona made an impact by interfering in the match between Myles Borne and Josh Briggs, which cost Briggs a spot on Team NXT. This led to NXT General Manager Ava setting up a match between Cardona and Briggs.
Matt Cardona was excited to compete in his first match in WWE after five years. However, the match didn’t go in Cardona’s favor, as he lost to Josh Briggs. Briggs picked up a clean victory after hitting a running knee for the win.
John Cena reacted to Matt Cardona’s WWE return by giving him a nod on Instagram. He posted a photo of Cardona standing in the WWE NXT ring. Interestingly, Cardona commented on the post with, ‘MSG?’ referring to Cena’s scheduled appearance at the arena on November 17 for WWE RAW.
Former WWE star Killer Kross recently said he wants to see John Cena face Matt Cardona in a match. After Cena acknowledged Cardona, fans began to wonder if this could actually happen. Cena has only four appearances left before he retires from wrestling in December. His final match will take place at the December 13 WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event show.
