A blockbuster match between Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns was tentatively scheduled for WWE WrestleMania 42, according to a new report.
Despite crossing paths on multiple occasions, Rollins and Reigns have never faced each other in a singles match at WWE’s biggest premium live event of the year. That could have changed next year, as a new report from F4WOnline.com‘s Dave Meltzer (via Wrestling Observer Radio) suggests a match between the former Shield brethren was in the works for WrestleMania 42.
“Seth Rollins was tentatively scheduled to wrestle Roman Reigns at WrestleMania. I don’t know this, but I have been told enough things to where I expected there to be a turn on Seth Rollins at some point. The whole thing with this faction was not about Seth Rollins. It was about Bron Breakker and making Bron Breakker the next Roman Reigns,” Meltzer explained. “I doubt it was going to be this early.”
Rollins and Reigns last met in singles action at WWE Royal Rumble 2022. They most recently collided in the main event of WrestleMania 41 Saturday in a triple threat match with CM Punk. At the end of the match, Paul Heyman betrayed both Punk and Reigns to align himself with Rollins.
Meltzer also speculated that Rollins’ injury could affect plans for two other events, Saturday Night’s Main Event in Salt Lake City and Survivor Series in San Diego.
Seth Rollins reportedly dealing with injury
Seth Rollins faced Cody Rhodes in the main event of WWE Crown Jewel: Perth. During the match, Rollins performed a coast-to-coast headbutt on Rhodes, landing awkwardly on his shoulder in the process.
Reports that surfaced after the event noted that The Visionary was seen wearing a sling following the show. On this past Monday’s episode of WWE RAW, Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed turned against Rollins.
PWInsider recently reported that Rollins is believed to have suffered a shoulder injury during his Crown Jewel match. The report further stated that he will undergo testing in the coming days.
Fightful Select also reported that The Vision’s attack on Rollins was part of a major creative pivot. It was mentioned that Bron Breakker’s split from the faction wasn’t originally planned, but it was expected sometime next year.
