Darby Allin believes AEW’s backstage atmosphere has become much better since several egotistical wrestlers left the company.
During his appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Allin described the current vibe in AEW as positive and united. “It’s amazing. I’m not just saying that. A few years ago, you definitely felt like this tension but now it’s like everybody’s on the same page, let’s make this place as good as possible.”
“I feel like a lot of people truly need to understand how good they have it because Tony he wants everybody, in the ring and in their personal, to be happy. That’s a really good energy where it’s like, everybody, just be the best versions of yourself. I feel like, right now more than ever, everybody is on the same wavelength. Everybody has the same goals.”
When asked what led to this positive change, Allin explained, “The cancer got cut out. Just egotistical wrestlers that don’t want to lose.” He was asked about the names he said there were multiple people but he chose not to name anyone directly. “No. It’s pretty obvious, who has the egos? Who literally has the egos, who doesn’t want to do what’s best for this company? It’s about doing what’s best for this company. It’s pretty obvious”
Following his comments, many fans speculated that Darby Allin was referring to CM Punk. However, Allin later clarified that he remains friends with the former AEW star.
Darby Allin clarifies his friendship with CM Punk
Ariel Helwani directly asked Darby Allin if his “cancer” comment was aimed at CM Punk, noting that Punk’s name naturally came to mind. Allin immediately clarified that he was not referring to CM Punk.
“No. The whole Punk thing was just his own thing, it wasn’t about wanting to win or lose. That’s the thing. Honestly, I feel like at the end of the day, some people work better in WWE, some people work better in AEW, some people work better in TNA, some people work better in MLW, New Japan. That’s the beauty of it. I’m not one of these guys like, ‘There’s one game in town.’ I don’t care. I do not care. I just care what’s best for AEW as a whole.”
“Right now, the energy that we have, that’s what’s best for this place. Of course you’re going to have those growing pains and of course you’re going to have those stresses. People are going to come in the company and think what’s best for business is what’s best for them, but that’s so not the case. I’m the guy who’s willing to go out there and do what this place needs me to do. I’m willing to lose to whoever, I do not care. I just want to have a good time because we are so grateful just to be doing this for a living. That never ceases to amaze me, the spot I’m in.” [H/T: Fightful]
