It appears that WWE Superstar Xavier Woods was almost a free agent last month.
The New Day member first signed with WWE back in 2010, but it appears his latest contract negotiations to stay with the company came down to the last minute.
According to Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select), Xavier Woods has signed a new multi-year contract with WWE. However, negotiations came down to the wire and weren’t necessarily a done deal until the last minute. This is very surprising, as you would expect this to have been taken care of months ago.
Woods’ contract was set to expire in September. But the two sides managed to iron out a new deal for him to remain with the company.
Oddly enough, there’s currently no information on the contract status of Kofi Kingston despite all three members of The New Day signing contracts together in 2019. Although those contract periods could have fluctuated due to injury time for each performer.
Xavier Woods has yet to win a singles title in WWE
Xavier Woods has accomplished a great deal during his 15-year WWE career. But one thing has consistently eluded him.
Despite being a 12-time Tag Team Champion and a former King of the Ring, Woods has yet to capture a singles title in WWE.
While most people would point to his alignment with The New Day as the reason for the lack of singles success, WWE Championship title reigns from both Big E and Kofi Kingston kind of negate that argument.
Hopefully, Woods will capture his first WWE singles title on this newly signed contract.
