Backstage Change To How WWE Handles Callups — Report

Callups from WWE NXT to the main roster of RAW and SmackDown are reportedly being handled differently than before.

Over the past year, WWE has changed some of its methods when it comes to how it handles callups from NXT to RAW and SmackDown.

According to Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select), callups in WWE now are much more flexible than they were during the Vince McMahon regime. Gone are the days when talent would be immediately pulled from NXT. Which would leave the third brand in a creative slump without its top stars.

Sapp reports that in the past, WWE knew there were certain points in the year where call-ups would take place. But over the last year, call-ups in WWE have been handled “significantly different” than they have in the past.

Not only are call-ups much more of a secret than they have been in the past, but there isn’t a strict edict of taking that talent off NXT TV after being called up. The new, lighter road schedule for the WWE main roster allows NXT talents to handle things differently, allowing them to finish up their NXT run from a storyline perspective.

Unlike the Vince McMahon regime, it seems WWE values veteran presence on NXT and at the Performance Center. This has allowed more crossover between the three brands.
