Controversial Peacemaker Emote Pulled From Fortnite After Major Plot Twist Reveal

A major Peacemaker plot twist has resulted in Fortnite removing the character’s Emote from the game.

The latest episode of HBO Max’s Peacemaker series, “Ignorance Is Chris,” saw the revelation that the alternate dimension that John Cena‘s Peacemaker/Christopher Smith had been living in was actually Earth X. Comic book fans know this universe to be a fascist, Nazi world where Germany had actually won World War II.

Many fans speculated that this was the case since the show’s second season began, pointing out the lack of people of color in the alternate dimension where Peacemaker and his family were hailed as heroes. Peacemaker didn’t pick up on this, as he was blinded by being celebrated (and having his brother still being alive in this world). Fans also questioned if the dance and background effects seen in the opening credits had ties to Nazis or swastikas.

Fortnite has pulled Peacemaker’s ‘Peaceful Hips’ emote

Epic Games, the developer of Fortnite, has now reacted to that speculation and disabled the Emote from the game.

“We’re disabling the Peaceful Hips Emote in Fortnite as we inquire into our partner’s creative intentions in this collab emote. Assuming it’s not coming back, we’ll issue refunds in the next few days. Sorry folks,” Fortnite wrote on Twitter/X.

Peacemaker creator James Gunn has addressed the plot twist in multiple instances since the episode aired on September 25. However, Gunn has not commented on the theory about the dance sequence in the opening credits.

During the latest episode of Peacemaker: The Official Podcast, Gunn said the production team was very sensitive to the storyline and tried to be as careful as possible with it.

Gunn also spoke with IGN‘s Jim Vejvoda about fans figuring out the twist early on. Gunn noted that it made sense that people picked up on it. He also noted that no one who saw the season before it went on air, which included “people of all different ethnicities,” noticed it.
