AJ Styles Announces When He Will Retire

AJ Styles has finally revealed when he will stop wrestling.

During an interview with Tokyo Sports, AJ Styles confirmed 2026 will be the last year he competes as a pro wrestler. Styles was promoting WWE’s Super Show Japan events on October 17 and 18 and said this would be his last matches in Japan.

“I’m really excited. This will probably be my last fight in Japan, so I’m really looking forward to it. I’m planning to retire soon, so I may not come back to Japan before I retire,” Styles said (via translation).

He gave a more definitive answer, explaining that he hopes to compete at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas. However, he said that he still plans to retire in the next year, noting that he wants to end his career at the top of his game.

“I will probably appear at WrestleMania, but it’s not confirmed yet. The details are still undecided, but I will definitely retire within the next year,” Styles told Tokyo Sports. “I don’t want to show my fans a side of me that isn’t AJ Styles. That’s the main reason. I’ve decided to retire before my body can no longer move.”

Despite ending his in-ring career, Styles believes he could also stay with WWE as a trainer.

“I haven’t decided yet, but I think I’ll probably work for WWE. It might be good to train young wrestlers to be worthy of being on the main roster, but I don’t know yet.”

AJ Styles will face John Cena at WWE Crown Jewel in Perth, Australia in October. A recent report shed more light on how long that match has been planned, despite the impromptu build to it.
