Stephanie McMahon has not competed in a match in several years. Would she consider returning to the ring again?
Nikki Bella was this week’s guest on Stephanie’s “What’s Your Story?” podcast. During the conversation, the pair discussed the topic of retirement and how they don’t always stick when it comes to professional wrestling.
Nikki Bella brought up how pro wrestlers never actually “retire,” whether they intend to or not. Stephanie said it’s a good story beat in the moment, but things always change. Nikki said that in her return, she gave herself some grace because she knew she was coming back in a new era.
“I’ve had an era where I proved myself and proved [to] everyone. I was more on that mission of proving what I could do. And here, I want to prove myself with how I can hang [with the current roster] and be in this badass division that’s just insane,” Nikki said. “They make it look so easy!”
Stephanie McMahon sounds pretty happy staying retired
Stephanie brought up being asked about an in-ring return on the WWE Evolution pre-show. She said she emphatically said no then, and her answer hasn’t changed because she knows how talented the current group of women is.
“Big E asked me on the pre-show, he goes, ‘Do you have one more match in you?’ And I’m like, ‘No.’ I’m like, ‘Have you seen this division?!?’ Same thing [now],” Stephanie said. “I’ll embarrass myself and the business if I try to hang with these women. But you’re in there doing it.”
Stephanie McMahon’s last match was at WrestleMania 34 in April 2018, when she and husband Triple H faced off with Kurt Angle and Ronda Rousey. Prior to that, Stephanie’s last singles match was against Nikki’s sister, Brie Bella, at SummerSlam 2014.
