Former WWE Superstar David Otunga wants The Nexus to attack John Cena one last time.
During his appearance on The F Y’all Podcast, David Otunga reflected on The Nexus storyline. He admitted that the group never reached its full potential and felt the faction lost momentum after their defeat at SummerSlam 2010.
“The SummerSlam thing, that was a disaster. We should have won that. That completely cut the legs out from under us. Everybody agreed (Nexus should have won) but one person. John Cena.” Otunga also expressed that it would be unfair if Cena retired without facing The Nexus again.
“And to be honest with you, I think it’s a travesty if he retires without The Nexus coming back to whoop his ass. I think that’s what should happen. He should be about to break the record, all of a sudden, who comes out of the crowd, who pops up on the ring – boom, it’s payback. Here’s your receipt, our receipt.” [H/T: Wrestletalk]
The Nexus losing to Team WWE at SummerSlam remains one of the most controversial decisions that fans still debate today. Many believe the loss derailed the faction’s momentum after they had made a huge impact on the roster.
In the match, John Cena faced a two-on-one disadvantage against Wade Barrett and Justin Gabriel after taking a brutal DDT onto the concrete. Despite the setback, Cena overcame the odds and secured the win for Team WWE. Years later, even Cena admitted that the decision for Team WWE to win was a mistake.
