AEW President Tony Khan hinted that Chris Jericho in-ring return could happen soon.
Jericho has not appeared on AEW television since April, when he expressed frustration with Bryan Keith and Big Bill. During his absence, reports claimed his contract would expire at the end of the year, sparking speculation that he might leave AEW and return to WWE.
However, Jericho dismissed those rumors, making it clear he has no plans to leave anytime soon. AEW President Tony Khan recently addressed Jericho’s status during an interview on Torg and Elliott.
Khan praised Jericho’s contributions to the company, “Well, Chris Jericho’s been here since the very beginning. And I have so much great respect for Chris Jericho. I do really have to say I would love to have Chris Jericho in AEW any time.”
“Yeah, we absolutely want Chris Jericho back in AEW, and hopefully soon. He’s been great with us and he’s been with us since the very first event. The very first AEW World Champion. And Chris is a huge part of the history of AEW and still in great shape, still a great wrestler.”
He told fans to keep watching AEW, hinting that Jericho might return to the ring soon. “Well, I think you got to stay tuned to the show. That’s one of the reasons you watch the wrestling show is to see the returns, and we just talked at the beginning of the call about, you know, keeping secrets and stuff like that, so I think stay tuned.” [H/T: f4wonline]
Chris Jericho responds to WWE’s recent counter programming of AEW
Chris Jericho has dismissed reports suggesting he might leave AEW, making it clear he has no plans to go anywhere soon. He spoke to Daily Mail at Halloween Horror Nights about WWE’s recent counter-programming efforts.
“I mean, it’s wrestling. It’s always been that way. It happened in the seventies, happened in the eighties, it happens now. So it’s just one of those little maneuvering things that’s far above my pay grade, but I never see a problem with it.”
“Because it shows that each one is on each other’s tails, and that’s okay. Why would you do that? It’s because that’s the way it’s always been done. That’s what wrestling is. It’s kind of fun to see the different chess moves from both sides. You see kind of which one works and which one doesn’t. It’s always been part of the business.”
