WWE NXT Star Explains Meaning Behind New Gimmick

Ridge Holland is now “The Steam Pig.”

After two months of inactivity, Ridge Holland returned to a WWE NXT ring at a live event with a new look and gimmick, called “The Steam Pig.” According to Holland, this new persona takes inspiration from his background in rugby.

“Since people are asking…..Think of a ‘steam pig’ as rugby league slang for the most brutal, blue-collar type of forward: Thick-set, low to the ground, pure power,” Holland wrote on X alongside a photo of himself in character. “I don’t play with finesse — it’s all about collision, impact, and intimidation. Fans call me steam pig because I charge head-down like a battering ram, wearing down my opposition until there’s nothing left. It’s a badge of honor – a reputation for being the hardest man on the field.”

Prior to signing with WWE in 2018, Holland spent a number of years playing in rugby league clubs, such as the Batley Bulldogs, Hull Kingston Rovers, Salford Red Devils, and Swinton Lions.

Holland debuted himself as “The Steam Pig” at a July 19 NXT live event, when he took on and defeated Tate Wilder. Since then, he’s competed at two other live events, earning victories over Shiloh Hill and Drako Knox. His last outing on NXT television took place in a number one contenders battle royal on May 6, though he did recently appear on the August 20 episode of WWE Evolve with a win over Sean Legacy.
