Former WWE Superstar Matt Riddle recently revealed that Goldberg once told him he didn’t understand the wrestling business.
Matt Riddle and Goldberg have a long history of issues. During his WWE run, Riddle often clashed with Goldberg and openly criticized his in-ring style. In 2019, their tense backstage confrontation at WWE SummerSlam became one of the most talked-about moments among fans.
Although they eventually moved past the issue, Riddle recently revealed details about another tense conversation between them. Speaking with TMZ Sports, Matt Riddle was asked about the clips on social media showing his tense interactions with Goldberg.
He explained that while one of their talks was filmed and they had another backstage exchange that was also recorded but never shown. “He said he found me very disrespectful and rude, and I don’t understand the business. And I go, ‘I see your point. I just don’t think you’re that great of a pro wrestler.’ And he goes, ‘Oh, well, my bank account’s huge.’ I go, ‘Bill, your bank account, and I mean this, will probably always be bigger than mine, but at the end of the day, nobody is going to go back to watch that Bill Goldberg 30-minute classic match.'”
Riddle admitted that Goldberg’s best match was probably against DDP and gave him credit for that performance. However, he pointed out that aside from a few spears and the jackhammer, Goldberg didn’t offer much in the ring. He acknowledged Goldberg’s success and his iconic status in wrestling, but argued that his in-ring ability was limited.
He said that after his UFC release, he started fresh at a wrestling school and worked his way up, something Goldberg never did. “Even when I was in the UFC, after I got fired, I went to a wrestling school. Started from square one and worked my way through the indies to WWE. He didn’t.” [H/T: WrestlingInc]
