Cody Rhodes could have been part of Happy Gilmore 2 if everything went according to plan.
One of the biggest movies to have premiered last weekend was the Netflix film, Happy Gilmore 2. This movie is the sequel to the 1996 film Happy Gilmore. Adam Sandler stars as the title character in both films, but the sequel also featured multiple professional wrestlers. Former AEW World Heavyweight Champion MJF, current WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch, and Hall of Famer Nikki Bella all have roles in the new film.
However, a recent report claims that former WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Cody Rhodes was almost a part of the Happy Gilmore 2 family too. Fightful Select recently reported that Cody Rhodes was approached to read for a role in the movie. The exact role he was offered to read for was not divulged in the report. It was noted that there were some scheduling conflicts that prevented it from happening, but discussions between the two sides took place.
It’s unclear how close Rhodes was to getting an offer, but the request to read for it was made.
Filming for Happy Gilmore 2 was extensive, as MJF took several months off from AEW TV to finish the project. It was noted that MJF actually left the set to work a match for AEW, while Becky Lynch filmed during her hiatus from WWE.
Cody Rhodes still has at least one movie role coming out soon
Rhodes may have missed out on the opportunity to be a part of Happy Gilmore 2. But, he has reportedly been cast to play the role of Guile in the upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie. One of his biggest rivals in WWE, the Original Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns, will also be playing a role in the live-action Street Fighter movie. He will be playing the role of Akuma.
The American Nightmare will also be playing a role in the reboot of The Naked Gun starring Liam Neeson. The Naked Gun hits theatres on August 1.
