Samoa Joe is ready for his close-up.
Joe spoke with WrestleZone Senior Editor Matt Black to promote his role as Sweet Tooth in Twisted Metal. The show is based on the popular Twisted Metal video game series for Sony PlayStation-branded consoles. Joe laid out his best pitch to attract new fans to the show, explaining that if you enjoy car races, machine guns and crazy stunts, you’ll want to tune in.
“I’d look them straight in the eye and say, ‘Hey, listen. If you like Mad Max, but you hate Australian accents, watch Twisted Metal, bubba. Get all those dirty Aussie accents right out of that production. Get this post-apocalyptic American action like it should be,” Samoa Joe joked.
“No, I would tell them this, man. Listen, if you would like to see cars laden with machine guns battling each other across the greater breadth of the United States. If you want to see a wacky action comedy where some of the craziest stunts and the things you’ll see on TV will be present, watch Twisted Metal.”
Season two of Twisted Metal is a bit darker than its predecessor
Season one of Twisted Metal had a bit of a lighter approach compared to what’s in store in season two. Joe agreed that the new batch of episodes feels a bit like the theme of the PlayStation 2 game, Twisted Metal Black.
“I would. And I think the tone and the shift and stuff, I think coincides with how the series itself kinda travelled along its lifetime, where it became a darker subject matter and not so much ‘outlandish car shooter from the future.’ I think a lot of the tones and a lot of the mysticism you see arriving this season and become a factor, so yeah, I think the tone definitely shifted to a little bit more darker. But I think that’s to be expected, especially with the tournament and the stakes that come with that.”
When will Samoa Joe return to AEW?
The last time AEW fans saw Samoa Joe, he was being stretchered out of the ring at AEW All In: Texas. Many speculated about the reason Joe was taken out of the match by the Death Riders. Joe claims that he is under concussion protocols at the moment. However, he hopes to be cleared to return sooner rather than later.
“Obviously, we’re working through concussion protocols right now, something that I’m going to take very seriously. And you know we’ll see, hopefully doctors will clear me sooner than later. We can make amends for things that maybe shouldn’t have gone on.”
Would he consider allowing someone like HOOK, his stablemate in The Opps, to step in for him and defend the titles in his absence?
“I think the decision on what happens to Trios Titles is firmly in the hands of The Opps. And I don’t think that’s an issue. As for being replaced, I mean, you know what, we’re gonna wait and we’re gonna find out where we’re at with the doctors first. Then we’ll make those very drastic, very life-altering decisions. But it would be a little bit premature to do that now.”
Season two of Twisted Metal premieres on July 31 on Peacock.
