Def Rebel Exposed For Using Vocal Samples On WWE Theme Songs

One artist’s discovery probably won’t win Def Rebel any more WWE fans over.

Singer Ellie Price recently shared that Def Rebel had used one of her vocal tracks for Fatal Influence’s theme song. Price shared how she released a sample of vocal recordings on Splice, a royalty-free music source. She speculated that Def Rebel took her samples and ran them through AI software to create a similar, but new track.

Price noted that Def Rebel did not do anything wrong. She pointed out that her music was intended to be used for samples. Sites like Splice allow content producers to legally use the samples provided without the worry of potential copyright infringement.

Price is happy she found the link between the two songs. However, she wishes it were actually her singing on the song. As Price pointed out, the vocals on her song and the Fatal Influence track were noticeably different.

According to Puroresu Ongaku’s Laila Carvallo (via LuigiWrestling), the voice on the Fatal Influence version of the song is Bianca Sperduti. She is credited as a Def Rebel “collaborator.”

“The vocals, performed by Bianca Sperduti, a def rebel collaborator since 2020 (she’s also credited as a songwriter on streaming platforms), are not direct lyrical copies of any known sample, but the melody, tone, and vocal delivery match a royalty-free vocal line available on Splice,” Carvallo wrote. “It’s clear that the performance is built around that original sample, with only slight lyrical variation.”

Def Rebel has used vocal samples on other WWE entrance themes

Another fan (and Carvallo) did some research and found that Fatal Influence’s song, “The Chosen,” isn’t the only song Def Rebel used samples for. Def Rebel also did it for Dakota Kai’s WWE theme song, switching it from a female to male vocal:

Using AI for art is a sensitive subject, as is AI in general. Def Rebel has largely been criticized by fans for their “lackluster” entrance themes. Some groups have even called for the collective to be fired by WWE and replaced by a better composer. According to a February report on Fightful Select, WWE talent also feels the same way as fans who are frustrated by the lack of input on songs that are largely “unidentifiable” on WWE TV.

It was noted that some WWE talent pushed to get their old themes back, with some to no avail. It is still unclear when Def Rebel’s contract or agreement with WWE expires.
