It’s been over a year since WWE fans last saw Asuka. According to a new report, they will have to wait a little longer to see her again.
Following a WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship loss at WWE Backlash in May 2024, Asuka underwent knee surgery. “The Empress of Tomorrow” had been enduring pain in it for sometime, including through a European tour in which she teamed with her Damage CTRL stablemates Kairi Sane and Dakota Kai.
Per Fightful Select, Asuka was expected to miss the remainder of 2024 as well as the WrestleMania 41 premium live event in April 2025. As such, WWE didn’t have serious consideration for her potential involvement at The Show of Shows.
Despite not being imminent, general creative ideas for Asuka’s return have reportedly been discussed in recent months. Details on those creative plans or a specific comeback date were not mentioned. Nevertheless, Asuka will reportedly remain on the sidelines for now.
Meanwhile, her stablemate Kairi Sane returned to action last week as part of a Women’s Money in the Bank qualifier. Former WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley ultimately captured victory in the bout, courtesy of a Riptide on Sane. “The Pirate Princess” had previously been sidelined with a torn ligament in her thumb.
Fellow Damage CTRL member IYO SKY currently reigns as the WWE Women’s World Champion. Dakota Kai, the faction’s fourth member, was released from WWE earlier this month.
