Rossy Ogawa Criticized For Fat-Shaming Utami Hayashishita, Kenny Omega Reacts

A storm of backlash has reached Rossy Ogawa.

Last year, former STARDOM promoter Rossy Ogawa launched a new all-women’s wrestling promotion, Dream Star Fighting Marigold, and crowned Sareee as the inaugural Marigold World Champion. After defeating Sareee at Marigold First Dream in January, Utami Hayashishita now holds the title.

During a recent interview with Sports Graphic Number, Ogawa addressed Hayashishita’s current presentation, and in doing so, suggested that she “tone up a bit.”

“Utami has already bloomed once in STARDOM, hasn’t she?” he said. “I think she has a sense of mission for the organization, but it is difficult to make her blossom a second time. Personally, I want to see her show a toned body as a wrestler. It’s not like the Showa era. I’m not saying that just because she’s a pro wrestler, she should drink and eat a lot. But I don’t approve of a fat wrestler.”

Rossy Ogawa’s comments get instant backlash

Ogawa’s comments on Hayashishita’s appearance have quickly spread across social media, with many wrestling fans criticizing them.

“Imagine thinking this should be in better shape. is he out of his mind,” one user wrote alongside a photo of Hayashishita flexing.

“Rossy publicly trying to weight shame his world champion, who’s not only in great shape, but is 1 of the most gorgeous women I’ve ever seen, unreal,” wrote another fan. “You are not seeing the pearly gates old man. We love you Utami.”

“Rossy ogawa calling his TOP CHAMP and day 1 talent overweight and saying she needs to lose weight is nasty, nasty work,” wrote another.

Others are hoping that Ogawa’s words were lost in translation, as they were spoken in Japanese and later translated into English.

Kenny Omega also reacted to Ogawa’s remarks

AEW International Champion Kenny Omega also reacted to the situation, making reference to his own previous comments about Ogawa’s seemingly questionable actions toward female wrestling talents.

“Yeah, that’s very odd,” Omega said on his Twitch stream. “The funny thing is I remember comments that I made on this chat, and maybe I had said too much. People attacked me instantly. ‘How dare I say anything bad about Rossy. I’m lying. I’m a liar. What would I know? If I know something, maybe I should just say what it is, because if I don’t say it I’m just as bad right flat out then I’m just as guilty.’

“It doesn’t work that way, and if you think it works that way, you don’t know how life works,” Omega continued. “Someone like Rossy does a good job of revealing himself to the world on his own. And soon enough, whether he goes full mask off on his own, or people start talking, the writing will be on the wall.”
