Shawn Michaels Almost Had A Drastically Different Theme Song Instead Of ‘Sexy Boy’

Shawn Michaels had a different entrance theme before ‘Sexy Boy’ caught on in the early 1990s.

WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels is best known for his iconic entrance theme, “Sexy Boy.” The song has become one of the most recognizable themes in WWE history. It has followed Michaels from the early 1990s all the way to his current appearances on WWE programming.

However, Shawn Michaels nearly had a completely different theme before “Sexy Boy” became his entrance theme. A fan recently shared an old clip on X, formerly known as Twitter, from a 1992 match featuring Michaels.

In the clip, Shawn Michaels enters with a different piece of music, which was intended as his original heel theme, “Rhapsody in Blue.” The theme had a much different tone and didn’t carry the same energy fans associate with The Heartbreak Kid.

The classical-sounding track was only used briefly before WWE introduced “Sexy Boy” as his new entrance theme. “Sexy Boy” theme went on to define Michaels’ persona and has remained his theme song for the past several years.

Shawn Michaels reveals his most underrated WrestleMania moment

In an interview with Justin Barrasso for Undisputed, Shawn Michaels said WrestleMania VIII was very important to him. He had the chance to face Tito Santana at the show. “I was still trying to find out who I was. That was a really key moment for me,” Michaels said.

“That’s a moment that doesn’t get the focus that it deserves, but it was very important for me. Having the incredibly great fortune to wrestle a guy like Tito was fantastic. He knew who he was, knew exactly what he was doing, and he kept me from going out of my mind wrestling in that spot in front of that many people.

“It was my first WrestleMania singles match, and I was very fortunate to be in there with a guy who understood what it meant to be a big-time player,” Michaels explained. “Again, I was very fortunate to wrestle a guy like Tito. That helped me shine and make the most of the moment.”

Michaels also said his character wouldn’t have been the same without Sensational Sherri. “Don’t underestimate how important Sherri was to all of this. There was this whole new idea about who ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ Shawn Michaels was going to be, and it doesn’t work without Sherri,” Shawn Michaels said.
