Zelina Vega opens up about her recent title win.
On the April 25 episode of WWE SmackDown, Zelina Vega defeated Chelsea Green to win the WWE Women’s United States Championship, the first singles title in her WWE career. According to Vega, this title win also came as a pleasant surprise as she only found out about it mere hours before.
“I actually didn’t know until like maybe three hours before the show started,” Vega told Ten Count Media. “So yeah, I had no idea. I remember when they did tell me though, I wasn’t nervous, surprisingly. Now mind you, normally I’m always nervous. I don’t get like butterflies in my stomach, I get like hawks. I’m very much a nervous person. But that was when my husband was coming back. That I knew from before, so when we walked into the arena together, my mind was just on him. It was just seeing him like at work again and traveling with him again. I think my brain was just so fixated on that that I didn’t have time to get nervous, which was such a nice feeling because I hate getting nervous.”
When informed that she’d be winning the Women’s United States Championship, Vega noted that her first thought didn’t center on the match, but rather the gear she could have potentially worn in it.
“This is so stupid, but the first thing that came to my mind was like ‘Damn, I wanted to wear my All Might gear for that. That’s okay.’ Because I was like if I ever win the United States Championship, I want to wear gear like All Might from My Hero Academia,” she said. “Obviously it didn’t happen that way, but regardless I was excited, but also, I was trying to catch my breath.”
Since claiming the Women’s US Title, Vega has also beaten Green’s ally Piper Niven in singles competition, then bested both Green and Niven in tag team action alongside Alexa Bliss.
