CM Punk may have put people over behind the scenes, but he sometimes struggles to process getting compliments himself.
Speaking to Netflix for an interview, the Second City Saint revealed he has an introvert side to himself. Punk said he’s bad at taking compliments, but does appreciate hearing fans who tell him that his straight-edge lifestyle had a positive impact on them.
“I’m a lot more introverted than people think I am,” CM Punk said. “I’m bad at receiving gifts. I’m bad at taking compliments. When somebody grabs me and says, ‘You saved my life,’ I don’t know how to take that.
“But something like, ‘I saw you on TV and you don’t drink, you don’t smoke, and that made me get clean, that made me sober up, I went to a program,’ I think, impact-wise, that’s always going to hit me right here. It’s always unreal to hear that I was able to have that sort of reach and impact on somebody’s life.”
CM Punk Has A Hilariously ‘Selfish’ Reason For Wanting To Fight Rey Mysterio Again
Elsewhere during the conversation, CM Punk namedropped a couple of current WWE superstars, including Rey Mysterio. The Straight Edge Superstar said he wants to run it back with his former nemesis, though for a different reason.
“The women are carrying the show a lot of times,” Punk told Netflix. “I think Rhea Ripley is a Superstar. Liv Morgan had an MVP year [in 2024]. I like watching Gunther compete. I hate Dominik Mysterio, that’s neither here nor there. Guys I want to work with — Jacob Fatu. Got a little taste at WarGames, but one-on-one stuff is my bread and butter, [there’s] more pressure that way … Finn Balor is fantastic. I selfishly want to lock back up with Rey Mysterio, teach him a lesson for having such a brat kid.”
CM Punk and Rey Mysterio famously feuded in 2010 during Punk’s run as the leader of the Straight Edge Society. The program ended with Punk getting his head shaved bald in front of the WWE Universe.
