One of the most controversial personalities in the history of professional wrestling is the former Chairman of WWE, Vince McMahon. Netflix had recently released a documentary on the career of McMahon. The President of WWE, Nick Khan, recently opened up about the reaction to the abovementioned documentary.
Recently, while speaking to Bill Simmons on his podcast, Nick Khan shared that following the lawsuits and sexual assault allegations, the plan to complete the documentary was dropped multiple times.
“[It was dead] A lot. A lot. By the way, it’s a testament to you, it’s a testament to Netflix, to get that done. Obviously, in getting it done, the latter part, which you just referenced, was quite bumpy for everybody. But it got done. And it seemed to get quite high viewership numbers on Netflix.”
Nick Khan also shared the Internal response for not killing the documentary but rather getting it done amidst all the legal cases.
“Well look, episodes one through five it was all fine. And then episode six obviously had a lot of todge allegations in there. So, the most important thing at the company was, ‘Hey, this is not for us to spike it.’ That’s not what the deal was. And the deal that was struck with Netflix was prior to me joining WWE on a full-time basis. So it was sort of trying to help everybody stay calm, who was watching it and, ‘Hey we’ll get through this thing. And got to the other side of it.’ Which, hopefully, now we are.”
Nick Khan also shared what the overall feedback was after watching the Documentary.
“It went everywhere from, ‘Hey it was phenomenally done like you did with Andre The Giant Documentary on HBO Sports.’ To, ‘Oh my God you know this thing, you know it’s not true. It’s not factual this and that.’ There were people who loved it as an objective told, objectively told profile of a person. And people who were close to the subject, who didn’t like it. Which, you know, I understand. And I would think you understand,” Nick Khan said.
