Izzi Dame Inexplicably Wins Match On NXT With A Botched Two Count Pinfall

Izzi Dame bested Wren Sinclair on WWE NXT this week, albeit under a confusing circumstance.

On this week’s episode of NXT, Izzi Dame defeated Wren Sinclair to secure her spot in the six-woman ladder match for the NXT Women’s North American Championship at Stand & Deliver. Still, there appears to be several question marks surrounding her qualifying match, specifically its finish.

In the final moments, Dame took Sinclair down with a sit-out powerbomb, then covered her for a pinfall. Upon the referee’s count of two, however, Dame rolled out of the pin and celebrated. Meanwhile, the referee continued the count to three and deemed Dame the winner.

Former WWE star Nic Nemeth (also known as Dolph Ziggler) has since weighed in on the botched spot, offering up a possible explanation as for what went wrong.

“A hand pounds the mat just before the ref starts counting. If you’re focusing on your opponent & listening, it’s deceiving,” he wrote on X. “But when in doubt, stay on top til ref pulls you off, lik MMA, NFL, etc. Now you all owe me a beer for making me watch wrestling! [Natural Light] can, please.”

WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray echoed Nemeth’s take in a reply, writing, “I think one of the guys at ringside pounded the mat, thus creating the audible illusion of the ‘1’ count. But Nic is correct about staying on top and keeping on eye on the Ref. counting.”
