An injury reportedly caused a change in plans to the card for AEW Dynasty.
On the March 26th episode of AEW Dynamite, Big Bill and Bryan Keith of the Learning Tree confronted AEW World Tag Team Champions The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin), alongside MVP. They went back and forth, and the Learning Tree duo made it clear that they wanted a title shot. MVP told them to earn one first. This was reportedly not the original plan.
Dave Meltzer reported about the situation in the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. He stated that Bill and Keith are set to challenge Lashley and Benjamin for the titles at AEW Dynasty. Per Meltzer, Brian Cage and Lance Archer were originally supposed to challenge for the titles. However, Cage is dealing with a knee injury. Cage has not wrestled since an independent event on March 20th. (H/t F4WOnline.com)
Cage was initially set to face Rich Swann at the Chris Bey Benefit show on March 23rd. Due to Cage’s injury, Swann faced Ricochet instead.
In Bill’s promo on AEW Dynamite, he noted that he never got a rematch after he and Ricky Starks lost the tag team titles in February 2024.
