Miss Elizabeth was pro wrestling royalty and the epitome of class… this action figure prototype is anything but that.
Over the years, graphic artists and toy designers have created some truly odd action figures. Some of these figures don’t share the likeness of their real life counterparts. Others have had things added, or in this case, removed.
The LJN Miss Elizabeth figure that hit retail shelves had a purple bodysuit and a removable soft goods gold skirt. However, one of the infamous prototypes that made its way out of the factory and into a collector’s hands was naked.
Yes, naked, as in the action figure sculpt had nipples and a vagina.
You might have heard the story about a rare “naked” Miss Elizabeth action figure prototype created by LJN in the 80s. The figure gained more attention in 2020 when Matt Cardona revealed that he acquired one during the Major Figure Wrestling Podcast’s “Complete History of WWF LJN Figures” video. Cardona said he ended up selling the prototype for a staggering $45,000, but the story doesn’t end there.
Former LJN product designer Bill Stanhope recently revealed that another revealing Miss Elizabeth prototype was created. This one is still likely to make it on an “Epic Design Fail” list somewhere, as it depicts her wearing lingerie with her breasts exposed. According to Stanhope’s description, this one is the “revised” version of the original prototype figure.
The Major Figure Wrestling Podcast recently talked shop about the latest prototype. During the show, Cardona mentioned how this figure differs from the one he sold.
Brian Myers then asked a fairly reasonable question that is probably on most of your minds after reading this — what the hell was going on in the 80s?
