Ronda Rousey Couldn’t Resist Making Pregnancy Announcement At Comic-Con

Ronda Rousey couldn’t resist announcing her second pregnancy.

The former WWE Women’s Champion revealed she was pregnant with her second child during the San Diego Comic-Con. She and her husband, Travis Browne, welcomed their first daughter, La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō, in September 2021, before she made her return to the WWE.

The former MMA fighter revealed she is pregnant again while also promoting her upcoming graphic novel. She cosplayed as “Mom” from Expecting the Unexpected. The character just happens to be as far along in her pregnancy as Ronda Rousey is.

That graphic novel launched on Thursday through a Kickstarter campaign, and required crowdfunding before it will be produced.

Ronda Rousey posted the explanation for her announcement on her Facebook page. The former UFC Champion revealed that she “couldn’t resist” revealing her pregnancy at comic-com. She revealed she had been “obsessing” over the story for the past five years, so it is perfect timing.

“IT’S A GIRL! Happy I can finally shout it from the rooftops, but couldn’t resist revealing it at Comicon where I’d coincidentally be exactly as far along (4 months) as my character “Mom” is in my new graphic novel “Expecting the Unexpected” (So technically I finally got to cosplay at Comicon ?) a story I’ve been obsessing over for the last 5 years since first trying to get pregnant with Pō as a way process the anxiety that comes with accepting the task of guiding a an [sic] innocent child through a hostile world.”

“A martial arts romantic comedy – In the story, Mom and Hapa (me and @travisbrownemma obviously lol) are two wanted assassins with an unwanted pregnancy who discover giving life is harder than taking it.”

“This story is like a refuge from that.”

Rousey spoke with WrestleZone to promote Expecting The Unexpected. During the conversation, she was asked if she still gets asked about returning to pro wrestling as much as she does with mixed martial arts. Rousey said it’s hard for her to ignore the negative feelings she had about her last WWE run, and also revealed that writing her new project was an escape of sorts from that situation.

“Yeah, I feel like it’s a good thing. I guess it means that I’m missed if people still to this day ask me if I’m going to be fighting or going to be wrestling. My last run, just with Vince [McMahon], Bruce Prichard and John Laurinaitis, it just was such a negative experience,” Rousey explained. “Most of them are gone. Bruce’s little sh*t ass is still around. But I’m not overly excited to come back like I was the last time.

“Even though I had so many matches that I very much enjoyed and had a great time, when I look back on it, I don’t really think of the joy that I had in those matches and those live shows, or that I had so much fun,” she continued. “I just think of the anxiety of never knowing what was going on until the very last minute, not being allowed to prepare, and getting our time cut over and over and over again. The experience itself was so needlessly stressful. I think that’s what drove me so hard towards screenwriting and graphic novels. This story is kind of like a refuge from that. I know that things are a lot different now. I’ve heard from the girls that it’s so much better. But it’s kind of hard to shake that and be excited to come back like I was before.”

What’s next for Ronda Rousey?

Rousey recently announced she is expecting her second child during her San Diego Comic-Con panel to promote her graphic novel. Rousey last competed as a pro wrestler in late 2023 for one match with Ring Of Honor. After that, she told TMZ Sports that she was not signing with AEW. Now, she is focused on being a full-time mom.
