Chris Jericho will wrestle in Calgary with All Elite Wrestling for the first time later tonight on AEW Dynamite.
FTW Champion Chris Jericho was a recent guest on McGuire on Wrestling. When asked if he expects a different vibe in Calgary tonight as it’s where he came up in the industry, Jericho said it’s the perfect time to be there and he’s excited to make his All Elite Wrestling debut in Calgary.
“It totally is,” Chris Jericho said. “And I’ve been doing this for so long that a lot of people probably don’t even know that I started in Calgary. But it’s interesting, like Calgary and Edmonton are both great cities. I found that Edmonton has really up the ante for their wrestling reactions and how they appreciate the shows. But I know that Calgary because it’s the Stampede, it’s gonna be so crazy. It’s a perfect time of year to be here, and it’s the perfect time of year to have the finals for the Owen Hart Cup.
“The tournament that we’ve been doing with Owen’s family and Dr Martha Hart. And it’s a perfect time to have the finals here. That really does connect us to the legacy and the lineage of the Hart family and how important they are to the history of not just pro wrestling but the history of Calgary. You don’t even have to be a wrestling fan to know that the Harts are from Calgary. It’s just kind of these mythical creatures that ruled the world back, back in the day.
“But I’m really excited about our show, and it’s my Calgary debut for AEW. I’ve wrestled her many times for WWE, but for AEW, there’s something special about that as well. So it is a good feeling. I am very excited about it. And once again, it just adds to the whole party vibe of what the whole city is doing here during Stampede. And it’s the perfect time for us to be here.”
Jericho has a tall task for his AEW Calgary debut as he faces Samoa Joe in a Stampede Street Fight. As of this writing, the FTW Championship doesn’t seem to be on the line.
