Darby Allin is still in a transition phase.
At AEW Revolution, “The Icon” Sting paid farewell to All Elite Wrestling as he competed in the final match of his legendary professional wrestling career. With Sting now firmly retired, one important question arose — what is next for his tag team partner, Darby Allin?
During a recent interview with WrestleZone, Allin provided an answer.
“I think people forget that I’ve been a singles act in AEW when I first started, way before Sting got there,” Allin said. “So it was literally just picking up where I left off. Sting’s like, ‘Dude, you have nothing to worry about like this.’ That’s the whole point of the Mount Everest trip was to go on a vision quest and remind myself of who I am, but unfortunately, I broke my foot two weeks before I was supposed to go to that. It’s interesting. I’m looking forward to everything, but I don’t think I have anything to worry about, per se, with Sting being gone.”
An Ongoing Adjustment
“I can’t be selfish and be like, ‘Stay with me forever Sting,’ because the man needs to ride off into the sunset, enjoy life after wrestling,” Allin continued. “At the tender age of 64, he gets to do that … It’s awesome. I love the guy. I still talk to him every week. It’s been an interesting transition since he’s been gone because I’ve had that Jay White match. Within the first minute of the match, I broke my foot. Finished the match with like an extra 12 minutes, and that was rough.”
“I’m still in the transition of life after Sting in a way. I’m not worried about it, but it’s going to be interesting to see just the flow of everything.”
As Allin mentioned, his post-Revolution plans initially included climbing Mt. Everest in the month of April. Due to a broken foot, though, that vision had to be postponed to a later date. After recovering from his foot injury, and being hit by a bus, Allin returned on the May 15 episode of AEW Dynamite. There, Allin revealed himself as the substitute for Eddie Kingston in the Anarchy in the Arena match set for AEW Double or Nothing.
