AEW Dynamite Results – May 8, 2024
This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite kicks off with Adam Copeland arriving at the arena. Copeland admits that he’s not doing great. Cope says his mind is wandering, and he wants to get his head right. Copeland says he just got off the phone with Tony Khan and reveals that tonight’s TNT Championship match with Brody King is now a no-disqualification match. Copeland says House of Black wanted The Rated R Superstar; now they have him.
Orange Cassidy defeated Trent Beretta
- Don Callis comes out halfway through the match and joins the commentary team. Orange Cassidy slammed Trent Beretta’s head into an exposed turnbuckle and rolled him up to score the pinfall victory.
Trent Beretta attacked Orange Cassidy at ringside following the match. Beretta hit Cassidy with a piledriver on the steel steps and followed it up by sling-shotting him into the steel beam underneath the ring. Beretta grabbed a toolbox, and Cassidy grabbed a steel chair. Don Callis and Kris Statlander separated both of them.
They play a video from earlier in the day when The Elite arrived at the building and chose to park in Tony Khan’s spot since he’s stuck in Jacksonville.

Kenny Omega has an important announcement on AEW Dynamite
They air a video of Kenny Omega from the hospital. He apologizes for not being able to be there live and blames what The Elite did to him last week. Omega says he appreciates that Matthew reminded him last week that everyone wasn’t personal; it was just business. Omega says as an EVP he must handle some business of his own.
Kenny Omega announces Anarchy in the Arena for Double or Nothing, The Elite vs. Team AEW. Omega names the first two names as FTR and says the other two names will reveal themselves to The Elite sooner than they think.
Tony Schiavone is on the stage and brings out Serena Deeb. Deeb says she’s excited to wrestle for the AEW Women’s World Championship at Double or Nothing. Deeb says she loves Toni Storm, but she’s aware of the narrative of people saying she can’t beat Storm. Serena says losing at Double or Nothing isn’t an option for her.
Serena Deeb has been through a lot
Deeb speaks about the unprovoked seizures she suffered last year and says she can’t explain how scary it was. Deeb says the hardest part is not knowing what caused the seizures. Serena says the one thing that stuck in her mind throughout was becoming the AEW Women’s World Champion.
Deeb is interrupted by Toni Storm. Storm says she thought she was going to hear from her challenger, but all she heard from was a charity case, so she throws money at her. Deeb says Storm better start giving a shit and taking this seriously. Storm says she doesn’t give a shit about what Deeb went through; the two women go nose to nose. Deeb tries to leave, but Storm stops her, and Deeb lays her out.
Orange Cassidy is backstage in the training room. Rocky Romero comes in and tells him that if Romero beats Jay White tonight, they can get a shot at the Unified AEW Trios Titles with a partner of their choosing. Cassidy wishes Romero luck in his match later on.
Mariah May defeated Harley Cameron (w/ Saraya)
- Mariah May hits Harley Cameron with Mayday to score the pinfall victory.
Saraya attacks Mariah after the match but is saved by her friend Mina Shirakawa.
Is Death Triangle going to return…?
PAC is backstage and says he’ll be honest; at this moment and time, he’s not concerned about bringing back Death Triangle. PAC is interrupted by Bullet Club Gold. Jay White says no one is concerned about Death Triangle because it’s dead.
White points out that PAC is coming off a loss to Kazuchika Okada. White says that he can get the job done against Jay White, and maybe he should beat him and bring the Continental Championship to Bullet Club Gold. Jay admits before he can think about that he has to worry about his match with Rocky Romero later on tonight.
A House of Black vignette aired teasing the eventual encounter between Adam Copeland and Malakai Black.
A campaign-type ad aired for The Elite. Matthew and Nicholas Jackson praise it from the desk backstage and say they’ll address what Kenny Omega said in the ring later on tonight.
AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland comes to the ring. Strickland says he’s pist off and is in a fighting mood and replays the beatdown from Christian Cage last week on Dynamite. Swerve calls out Cage and his family and tells them to come to the ring.
Christian Cage and his family come out on the stage and says this is supposed to be the city of champions, but they won’t be getting any championships this year when the Canucks beat the Oilers later on tonight.
Swerve Strickland didn’t come alone on AEW Dynamite…but did he choose his backup wisely?
Cage says he’s going to keep taking things away from Swerve until he gets what he wants at Double or Nothing. Cage says Swerve has been riding a wave of momentum, but waves end up crashing, and so will his.
Christian says the only gold Swerve will have after Double or Nothing is the gold in his teeth, but he might have to take those now. Swerve reminds Cage that he wasn’t coming alone and The Mogul Embassy arrives to have Swerve’s back.
Swerve runs down Cage and says when he’s put into a compromising position, he always quits. The Mogul Embassy attacks Strickland from behind. All three men beat down Strickland Cage tosses him over the top rope to ringside.
The Mogul Embassy takes Swerve Strickland and put him through the commentator’s table as Cage laughs and walks away.
Backstage, Christian Cage and The Young Bucks put each other over Cage, implying that the setup that just occurred at ringside was their idea.
TBS Champion Willow Nightingale is backstage. Nightingale says she’s beat up after last week but you can’t beat the smile off her face. Nightingale says she’s ready for Mercedes Moné but wants to know if Mercedes is ready for her. Willow points out that the last time they were in the ring together, she came out as the winner. Nightingale asks Mercedes if she’s ready for the fight of their lives later this month at Double or Nothing.
Jay White (w/ Bullet Club Gold) defeated Rocky Romero
- Jay White hits Rocky Romero with Bladerunner to score the pinfall victory.
Bullet Club Gold doesn’t want any part of PAC
Bullet Club Gold continued to attack Rocky Romero after the match. This brought out PAC to make the save, and Bullet Club Gold ran away.

FTW Champion Chris Jericho and Big Bill defeated Mo Jabari and Harlon Abbott
- Big Bill chokeslams both men and then tags in Chris Jericho so he can hit Harlon Abbott with the Judas Effect to score the pinfall victory for his team.
Chris Jericho heels the live crowd and mistakes the location for Calgary. Jericho says he deserves the “you f*cked up” chants and that he’ll learn from his mistakes — that’s what The Learning Tree does. Jericho thanks the people and thanks Big Bill for the great job he did tonight. Chris Jericho puts over his opponent Katsuyori Shibata from last week. Jericho thanks HOOK and says HOOK hit himself in the face with the baseball bat.
Tony Schiavone gets in the ring and informs Chris Jericho that HOOK will be returning to AEW Dynamite next week. Jericho says they will all celebrate next week as he thanks the crowd.
Adam Copeland defeated Brody King in a no-disqualification match to retain the TBS Championship
- Adam Copeland hits Brody King with a spear to score the pinfall victory.
Brody King attacks Copeland after the match, but Kyle O’Reilly comes out to make the save for Copeland.
Mercedes Moné is ready for Willow Nightingale at Double or Nothing
Mercedes Moné is backstage. Moné says we are only 18 days away from her in-ring debut for AEW and she’s close to making the return to the sport that she loves so very much. Mercedes says she thrives in the ring and under pressure. Moné says she’s ready for Willow Nightingale at Double or Nothing. Moné says Nightingale took something away from her that she can never get back…time.
Adam Copeland and Kyle O’Reilly are backstage. Copeland thanks O’Reilly for his help. O’Reilly says he’s happy to help but asks for a favor with Collision in his hometown on Saturday and asks for a Cope Open title shot. Copeland agrees, and the match is official.
The Elite comes to the ring and says they’ve been granted an overrun from TBS. Kazuchika Okada mockingly tells Kenny Omega to get well soon. Matthew sends well wishes to Tony Khan and says he’s the best boss he’s ever worked for, but he got in their way, and they had to give TK a TK Driver.
Matthew says Kenny Omega ended 15 years of friendship last week, and they had to give an EVP an EVP Trigger. Nicholas says if Omega wants Anarchy in the Arena, it’s on and wishes FTR luck trying to find two other people to fill out the team. This brings out FTR, who says they have two people with balls big enough for the job. Eddie Kingston and Bryan Danielson will compete for Team AEW! The eight men brawl as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.
