Swerve Strickland Considers Adam Copeland A ‘Mentor, Through And Through’

AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland made history at the AEW Dynasty pay-per-view. He became the first African-American wrestler to hold the Jacksonville-based promotion’s World Heavyweight Championship. Recently, Strickland shared his honest thoughts on the “Rated R Superstar,” Adam Copeland.

While speaking to News4JAX The Local Station, Swerve Strickland mentioned that Adam Copeland was the person that inspired him throughout his career. Strickland considers the Rated R Superstar as a mentor.

“Mentor. Through and through for me. After the pay-per-view, after the press scrum, the last person… I’m getting changed, nobody else is in the locker room but me and Adam Copeland. And just being able to share that the fact that you inspired me to when I started wrestling to just the mindset of this whole business. This art, is all based on him. I still have his book from 15 years ago that I read and studied and I’m just being able to share that with him as magic,” Swerve Strickland.

Swerve Strickland’s message to Grayson Waller

Recently, when Grayson Waller was interviewed on the News4Jax Local Station, he took a jab at AEW claiming that when WWE comes to Jacksonville the people in the town could finally see some actual wrestling.

Strickland addressed these comments during his interview. He took a shot at Waller and also assured that AEW is the best wrestling promotion.

“Obviously, and I love the subtleties and the person that said that, congratulations on their championship gold,” Swerve Strickland said. “Amazing. You were awesome when you were watching me in the seats when I was being a champion over where you were as well.

“So, happy to see where you progressed to. But let’s be real, we are the best wrestling, not just in Jacksonville, but anywhere on the globe. I stand on business on that.”
