Bishaman are back on top of the NJPW tag division.
The team of Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI won the titles yet again at a packed show at the Ryogoku Kokugikan. Over 6,000 fans piled into the arena in Tokyo to see a variety of matches at Sakura Genesis 2024. These included the title match, and AEW star Jon Moxley in action.
The IWGP Tag Team titles were on the line at the event. Champions Bullet Club (KENTA and Chase Owens) defended against Bishamon, who were chasing their fourth reign with the belts.
Despite being jumped before the bell, Goto and YOSHI-HASHI fought off their opponents. They managed to take home the gold after 14 minutes, with Bishamon hitting a “Shoto” on Owens before pinning him for the victory.
The bout was one of the better tag team matches on the show, which suffered from a number of less-than impressive bouts. Fans were thrilled to see the belts off of Bullet Club, following their 55-day reign with the iconic titles.
It is also the group’s first title defence, following a disappointing tour en route to this event. Bishamon are now in their fourth reign as the champions, with YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto solidifying themselves as one of the top teams in the division.
Bishamon Member Hirooki Goto Recently Lost In The New Japan Cup Final
This victory will help take the sting out of Bishamon’s Hirooki Goto’s latest big loss in NJPW.
He made his way to the final of the New Japan Cup this year, with a big win over SANADA on his way to the title-decider.
Goto is a three-time winner of the cup, more times than any other wrestler. However, he never managed to turn these wins into world title reigns, and it felt like his last chance to win the coveted IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.
Sadly, he could not make it four win. Goto lost to Yota Tsuji in the final match, earning the young star a shot at teammate Tetsuya Naito at Sakura Genesis 2024.
