The Damage CTRL split could have been quite different, but some factors affected the plan, which had been in place for months.
Damage CTRL turned on Bayley shortly after “The Role Model” won the 2024 Women’s Royal Rumble. Bayley has continued to feud with the stable on the road to WrestleMania 40. She chose to challenge WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY for the gold.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that the split was planned months ahead of time. Sapp cites members of WWE creative who noted that the idea was for Charlotte Flair to help Bayley fight off Damage CTRL when the turn happened. However, Flair’s injury in December changed the plans.
Additionally, while many fans assumed that Mercedes Moné, formerly known as Sasha Banks, would get involved, Sapp writes that this was not the working plan. One source noted that Mercedes signing with WWE could have changed this. That being said, this outcome was not planned, and it did not reach the stage of advanced creative pitches.
