Paul Heyman does not want to be called one of the best managers of all time.
The legendary advocate is being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year. Roman Reigns will induct him in Philadelphia, paying tribute to his time in WCW, ECW and WWE.
He is among the greatest managers in wrestling history, but certainly don’t say that to him.
While speaking to CinemaBlend, Paul Heyman was called “one of the greatest managers of all time.” However, the legendary manager soon made it clear he did not find that to be complimentary and explained why in a way only he could.
“That’s not… that’s not a compliment, by the way. See, I mean, not to be nitpicky or, you know, to spank you publicly here, but ‘one of’ is not a compliment, and I don’t know why people think it is. I’ll give you an example. If your wife turns to you or your significant other turns to you in bed after a passionate night of lovemaking and says, ‘You are one of the greatest lovers I’ve ever had,’” Heyman quipped, “Are you buying your flowers in the morning or you’re going to see a divorce attorney? [You’re seeing] a divorce attorney.
“‘One of?! Bitch, I’m out of here.’ ‘One of them’ is not a compliment. Google it bitches. I’m the best. I’m the greatest there’s ever freaking been, I’m the GOAT in live and in living color, doing it now for your enjoyment.”
WWE Hall Of Fame Induction Makes Paul Heyman Feel Old
Speaking with John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia, Paul Heyman was asked to describe what it felt like to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
His first offering was “old,” explaining how he rejected going in in the past.
“Old. I’ve avoided it for a long time. I was offered it a couple times so far in the past, and I just didn’t want to do it while I was still active and still relevant and still putting together a body of work of accomplishments. Because I always felt that the Hall of Fame is a lifetime achievement award and, ‘Thank you, goodbye.’ But it’s WrestleMania 40, it’s in Philadelphia, which is the birthplace of ECW.
“It’s an acknowledgment, all puns intended, of a body of work that is not yet complete. But it’s a perfect storm. I think it would be disrespectful to what we accomplished in Philadelphia, what we started in Philadelphia, what was born out of Philadelphia, if I didn’t accept it in Philadelphia.”
