NWA announced the dates and location of the 2024 Crockett Cup tournament.
The tournament returns for the third year in a row, and fourth time under Billy Corgan. The event features a tag team knockout tournament, with the last pair standing winning the coveted Crockett Cup. It is a trophy that has a history going back to 1986. It is a coup for any team to win, and features a legendary list of winners.
Joe Galli announced on Twitter that the tournament would return, with a host of top tag teams set to compete. He revealed that the Crockett Cup will take place on May 18, 2024, at The OC Theater in Forney, Texas.
“The @nwa proudly announces the return of the prestigious Crockett Cup tag team tournament, set to take place on May 18, 2024, at The OC Theater in Forney, Texas! This monumental event brings together the best tag teams in wrestling under one roof,” Galli wrote.
This Will Be The Seventh Crockett Cup Tournament
The history of the Crockett Cup goes back to 1986. The Road Warriors won the first iteration, while the team of Dusty Rhodes and Nikita Koloff picked up the trophy in 1987.
The last of the three annual tournaments took place in 1988. Sting and Lex Luger teamed together to win that one, beating Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard in the final.
It returned in 2019, in a joint collaboration betwen ROH and NWA. That tag team tournament was by Villain Enterprises, a team comprised of Brody King and PCO.
It was put on hiatus for another three years, before returning solely as an NWA promotion in 2022. This was due to the pandemic cancelling previous events.
The Briscoes won the 2022 tournament, while Mike Knox and Trevor Murdock were named Crockett Cup winners in 2023.
While no teams have been announced for the 2024 Crockett Cup, NWA have announced “the best tag teams” will appear at the event.
