Decay is back in TNA and they didn’t want anyone to see it coming.
Rosemary and Havok spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard ahead of TNA No Surrender. There, Decay will defend their TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Championship against MK Ultra (Masha Slamovich and Killer Kelly). This will be a rematch from Hard To Kill in January, which was a last-minute addition to the event card.
Decay spoke about what brought them back to TNA and why they quietly phased out the Courtney Rush and JesSICKa characters. Havok said it was all about timing. Rosemary then noted how their “sudden” move was actually something they’d planned on.
“This was calculated”
Havok: “A little over a year ago. Havok fell so soon to Masha [Slamovich]. You could hear the wind being sucked out of the room. Nobody could believe it. I myself couldn’t believe it. I don’t know. It was something that made me feel as though I needed to go away and figure out who I was again. And Masha, beating me so quickly, that’s what happened. And Rosemary and I have been apart long enough, then she finally came to find me. The timing was just right. It was, of course, a big surprise for everyone, but I don’t think we left many people disappointed. It was only fitting. The time was then. The time is now.”
Rosemary: “It’s understandable for people to only be able to see one side of the situation and to think it might be sudden. To us, it wasn’t sudden. To us, it was calculated. And to quote the great scholar Gene Roddenberry, revenge is a dish best served cold. Once we’re training, we’re refinding ourselves in the Undead Realm, what are they looking at? Courtney and JesSICKa these two bumbling fools who look like absolutely no threat whatsoever.
“Now, when somebody who put Havok out of commission, somebody who made us feel weak, who made us feel like we needed to go off and get better, and now she holds one half of the tag team championship, something which Decay has coveted and owned multiple times, and she how now has it. This is the absolute perfect time to return. This was calculated. This was meant to be so that they didn’t see us coming.”
“They weren’t completely useless”
Decay says it only made sense to come back at Hard To Kill for the official TNA rebranding. Both agreed that it was a “no-brainer” and the perfect setting for their own rebirth.
Despite their abrupt departure, Courtney and JesSICKa still added a new layer to Decay’s story. Are there any lessons they learned from their alter egos or traits they want to keep around?
Rosemary: “We learned that if you look like a bumbling fool, the people won’t see you coming. That definitely one thing we learned.”
Havok: “They were a little bit of a surprise, I will have to say, with their success. I found this (a plaque of their previous year-end award). What is this? Knockouts Tag Team of the Year 2022, the Death Dolls. Rosemary, JesSICKa, and Taya Valkyrie. So they weren’t completely useless, I guess. We could add this to the accolades, but I’m like, ‘How?’”
Rosemary: “JesSICKa was very popular, but she also was very drunk a lot of the time. And we think people like that a lot.”
Havok: “Too much pink.”
New Orleans energy
What should fans look forward to as far as the new era of TNA and what Decay has going on?
Rosemary: “Something that’s exciting about going to New Orleans, and we were talking about that chapel in Las Vegas, is New Orleans has so many spots like that. Such wonderful energy flowing through it. And wherever we’re drawn to, we want to find places to deliver these messages, deliver our words in the shadows, words to the people. That kind of energy there is always exciting. And New Orleans is one of our favorite places to perform because it looks so good on us.”
Havok: “I feel like TNA, we have a ton of momentum going into this too. Hard To Kill was so successful for the company and for Decay, obviously. But I feel like with the momentum that the company has, I feel like we are making it very difficult for fans to keep looking away.
“They want to watch. I feel like that’s something that I would really like to drive home, and I feel like we would like to drive home, is keep watching because we are doing something different. I feel what we’re doing is important. Not that anything else isn’t important, but I love to focus on what we’re doing and what the company is doing as a whole. And I think that we will just only continue to surprise and impress.”
