Kazuchika Okada shocked the wrestling world with the news that he would be leaving NJPW at the end of his contract. A new report states that he is heading to AEW, though he had talks with WWE.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that Kazuchika Okada is AEW-bound, as the two sides effectively agreed to a deal in recent weeks. However, it has not been confirmed whether he has officially signed a contract, which Sapp states is being finalized. As previously reported, AEW had been confident that they would land Okada for weeks.
Sapp writes that there is no word on firm plans regarding Okada’s first appearance following his signing, but it is expected to come after he finishes his commitments with NJPW. The report also notes that there have been creative ideas floated for Okada.
Furthermore, Sapp cites WWE sources who confirmed that there were talks between the company and Okada. Per Sapp, WWE talent said that Okada had been weighing the pros and cons between WWE and AEW.
Kazuchika Okada is a seven-time world champion with NJPW, and he was arguably the face of the company. He wrestled for AEW multiple times as part of their working relationship with NJPW.
