Thunder Rosa Reflects on Winning the AEW Women’s World Championship

Former AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa had been absent from in-ring competition due to an unexpected injury. But still, one of the biggest moments in her career was defeating Dr. Britt Baker to pick up the AEW Women’s Championship early last year on AEW Dynamite.

Recently, Thunder Rosa was interviewed by Nick Talbot of the San Antonio Express-News. During the interview, Thunder Rosa shared her experience about winning the AEW Women’s World Championship.

She mentioned that it was very emotional as she got to share the victory with a lot of people such as her family and fans.

“It was a very emotional night. It was a night and where… The whole day actually. It was very intense. My family was here. They came from Mexico. A bunch of friends flew from different parts of the country to be here at the moment. And Everybody shared like a story or a picture they sent me like so many messages of people that really matter in my life. They all were very happy for me. And they were just happy to see like the culmination of hard work.

“I think that’s for a lot of people that was like in what, for what it was for me too. It was that moment here not a lot of people can say they were able to enjoy something like that in so in such a way in where they made it theirs like coming out with a all-female Mariachi, playing El Son de la Negra. And like coming out dressed like a Mariachi with the Texas flag representing your country. Both of your countries.”

Thunder Rosa revealed that the ring used in her title match was the same one used at Mission Pro Wrestling

La Mera Mera was also beyond happy that the ring used in her title match at last year’s St. Patrick’s Day edition of Dynamite was the same ring that was used during her time in Mission Pro Wrestling.

“And then in the ring that we use is the ring that we use in Mission Pro Wrestling. That ring was bought with a lot of effort from a lot of different people, that are wrestling fans that were just like me. That just wanted to make women successful. It’s just like a pyramid of things right? And it just reminds me that I didn’t do this alone. I did it with the support of so many individuals that they don’t even know me personally but they believe in me. And that’s the same thing that I always when I always get in the ring or we always put the ring at Mission Pro. I always remember that. I’m like that ring was bought with blood, sweat, and tears. Literally, you know? And they were there, hey were put in there when I won the championship.”

Thunder Rosa opens up about the pain she and Britt Baker felt in the match

Rosa also shared that both she and Britt Baker felt a lot of pain in the match. Rosa even felt the blood boiling and cooling down during the match.

“And the pain that we both (Rosa and Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D) felt. It was a very painful match. I mean, I can speak for myself. There’s certain things when I watch it, again, I remember how that felt. I remember how the blood was hot and then it became cold, and then it was dry, and the smell, and the thumbtacks, and… No it doesn’t hurt when you fall in them because the adrenal is so high. They hurt when pulling them out. I remember I came to the back and I had 150 thumbtacks on the side of my leg. And I was hugging somebody and somebody is pulling out thumbtacks. I don’t remember feeling anything, I remember feeling it the next day or five hours later when the adrenaline came down. And I was, ‘Oh my God! I’m in… Pain is real.’”

Thunder Rosa got to share this beautiful moment with her father

Thunder Rosa is happy that she got to share the title-winning moment with her father. She mentioned she doesn’t know if she could share another moment like this with her dad.

“But it was a beautiful beautiful moment. Just to be able to share it again with my dad, who I don’t know if I am going to share a moment like that again. And again where it was so huge and it’s with my family that were watching at home in San Diego, in Tijuana. And so many other fans all over the world who told me that they were watching Dynamite that night and that they come to me during the signings and they’re like, ‘I was crying when you were crying during… when you win that championship.’”

Rosa also stated that while in wrestling she doesn’t know if she can top that moment, she wishes to reach the same heights in the field of singing.

“I don’t know if I’m going to be able to top that moment in my career. Maybe with something else, maybe when I start singing in a major Stadium in my first tour. That’s another goal that I have because I’m a singer too. I think that will be the moment,” Thunder Rosa said.

Rosa was not pinned to lose the championship. She was forced to relinquish the title due to an injury. She then took to Twitter to thank her fans.

Rosa stepped back into the Squared Circle this past Saturday night at AEW Collision. She will return to action next week on Collision to team up with Abadon to take on Julia Hart and Skye Blue.
