Josh Barnett is open to being part of AEW… albeit in an “authority” role. He claimed that his presence in the Jacksonville-based promotion would help the company in a big way.
Josh Barnett is a former UFC star turned into a professional wrestler. He has competed in several independent promotions and also had a short stint in New Japan Pro Wrestling and in TNA Wrestling (currently known as IMPACT Wrestling).
Over the past year in All Elite Wrestling, there have been several issues among wrestlers backstage. Starting with CM Punk’s comments about Hangman Adam Page and the Executive Vice Presidents, Kenny Omega, and The Young Bucks which led to a brawl between the stars.
Followed by their brawl at the 2022 AEW All Out pay-per-view, all parties involved were suspended. This was followed by an altercation between Sammy Guevara and Andrade El Idolo. There were a few more issues with the talent backstage.
A couple of weeks ago at the AEW All In pay-per-view, another backstage altercation occurred. CM Punk was once again at the forefront of the issue. He had a fight with Jungle Boy Jack Perry. Punk was fired from the promotion, while Perry was suspended.
Following this, Barnett took to Twitter to suggest that Tony Khan requires his presence in the locker room to maintain order among the wrestlers.
“Just a thought: Seems like the AEW locker room is in need of someone to establish some order and reign in the chaos. If Tony needs someone to keep discipline and sort out conflict, I’d be willing to take the job. I can promise you there won’t be random fights and anyone asking me if I’d like to, ‘Take it outside.'” Josh Barnett tweeted.
A Great Addition to AEW
One fan said Barnett’s presence is not required in the Jacksonville-based promotion. Barnett mentioned that he would be a big asset to the Tony Khan-led company. Barnett is a veteran in the business and he’s been trained by legends.
“It’s not just about being a shooter. Not all issues can be solved with fighting. It’s about being a vet, trained under the best like Inoki, Robinson, etc. Being a promoter, manager, and wrestler and knowing all sides of the biz. It’s about knowing your shit and how to back it up,” Barnett tweeted.
Tony Khan has yet to respond to this request.
