The WWE Women’s Championship changed hands twice at WWE SummerSlam, as IYO SKY cashed in her Money in the Bank contract.
Asuka defended the title against Charlotte Flair and Bianca Belair in a Triple Threat Match at WWE SummerSlam. The three stars threw everything they had at each other. Flair took control with a double Natural Selection, and she dropped Belair with a Spear. Asuka used her Asuka Lock multiple times throughout the match, but the challengers broke it up.
Flair took flight with a moonsault to the outside. She hit a double moonsault and continued to gain momentum. Belair was seemingly taken out of the match when she crashed onto the steel steps. She apparently injured her knee, and officials started helping her to the back. Belair then came back to the ring and broke up a Figure-Eight with a 450 splash.
In the thrilling final moments, Flair locked Belair in a Figure-Eight. Asuka spit her mist in Flair’s face, and Belair rolled Asuka up to win the gold. However, Belair didn’t have long to celebrate. Right after the bell rang, IYO SKY and Bayley came to the ring. They attacked Flair and Asuka, a and SKY proceeded to cash in her Money in the Bank briefcase.
After she hit Belair with the case before the bell, a Genius of the Sky moonsault clinched the win for SKY. In doing so, she captured the WWE Women’s Championship.
SKY celebrated with her Damage CTRL stablemates Bayley and Dakota Kai, who has been sidelined with an injury, after the bell.
WWE SummerSlam came just over a year after IYO SKY made her debut on the WWE main roster. She arrived alongside Bayley and Kai at WWE SummerSlam 2022, and the trio formed Damage CTRL. SKY is a former NXT Women’s Champion and NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion. She has also held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship twice.
