Hikaru Shida shares her reaction to regaining the AEW Women’s Championship.
In the main event of AEW’s 200th episode of Dynamite, Toni Storm defended her AEW Women’s Championship against a former champion, Hikaru Shida. This title match marked only the second time Storm and Shida had gone one-on-one. Their first singles match took place during Storm’s first reign as AEW Women’s Champion back in October 2022. While Storm took home the victory in their first encounter, Hikaru Shida responded with a win of her own to become the new AEW Women’s Champion.
On the heels of her championship victory, Shida expressed great joy and gratitude. “I did it!! You all did it!! We did it together because I couldn’t do this without you guys! Thank you so much, I heard you this time,” she tweeted.
Shida continued the rest of her post in Japanese, stating: “The AEW Women’s Champion is back! I was the champion without an audience due to the Corona crisis, but I was able to take the belt in front of the audience at the main event of the 200th anniversary broadcast. It was a dream moment!”
Earlier this morning, Shida provided a follow-up post. Though her win initially felt like a dream, Shida later realized that it was, in fact, reality. With the reality settled in, Shida now pivots her attention to AEW All In, which will emanate from Wembley Stadium on Sunday, August 27.
“I felt it was all dream for a moment after woke up, but no it’s not,” Shida tweeted. “I won the main event of 200 anniversary Dynamite and I AM the AEW Woman’s World Champion! Now, here comes Wembley!!”
In addition to photos of Shida posing with the title, the new AEW Women’s Champion also shared celebratory images of herself alongside Dustin Rhodes and AEW President Tony Khan. With her win over Storm, Shida officially begins her second reign as AEW Women’s Champion.
