Santos Escobar made a surprise appearance on WWE NXT.
The August 1 episode of NXT was headlined by a six-man tag team match pitting Gallus against Tony D’Angelo, Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo, and their mystery partner that was revealed to be Santos Escobar.
Escobar took charge in the final minutes, hitting Mark Coffey with a hurricanrana off the top rope to set up The Family’s Badda Bing Badda Boom back drop to afford their team the victory.
The Family recently beat Gallus at NXT Great American Bash to win their first NXT Tag Team Championship. But at the start of this week’s show, Gallus attacked The Family in the parking lot, which led to D’Angelo calling in a favor from an old friend.
D’Angelo and Escobar previously feuded throughout the summer of 2022. Escobar won their first singles match, but then The D’Angelo Family beat Legado del Fantasma at NXT In Your House to take control of the faction. Later in August, D’Angelo beat Escobar in a bout that had Legado’s freedom or Escobar’s career on the line. Legado del Fantasma effectively moved up to the main roster as a result.
Escobar made his NXT debut in 2020 and once held the NXT Cruiserweight Championship. He is set to challenge Austin Theory for the United States title on August 11.
