Wes Lee names his in-ring influences.
During a recent interview with Phil Strum of Under The Ring, former NXT North American Champion Wes Lee named the wrestlers that helped influence him to enter the business.
“Early on was one-hundred percent Rey Mysterio, Shawn Michaels, Randy Savage,” Lee said. “A number of people. Booker T, K-Kwik at the time, or R-Truth at the moment. Those were some of the names that really got me at the early stages of my childhood watching wrestling. Then as I grew up, I became a fan of AJ Styles, Amazing Red, a number of people, Low Ki. Talented individuals that were similar to my stature or at least similar to what I felt was going to be my stature.
“They revolutionized it for their size, for their ability, and for their charisma,” Lee continued. “That definitely helped shape and push me in a direction of how I wanted to be as a grew into this. I hope that I have been able to etch out my own lane with this and people are able to see that I am a unique individual standing on my own that has major influences from the people that I named, but I’ve definitely separated myself from them as well.”
Lee recently concluded a monumental 269-day reign as NXT North American Champion. He achieved 20 successful defenses during his run until Dominik Mysterio beat him on July 18.
