Beer City Bruiser is on the mend.
Bruiser had been featured in the previous era of Ring of Honor; he teamed up with Brian Milonas, and the duo competed as The Bouncers. Since ROH went on hiatus at the end of 2021, Bruiser has continued to compete on the independent scene, but he recently announced that he was set to have hip replacement surgery.
Speaking with Nick Hausman for Haus of Wrestling, Bruiser offered an update on his condition following the surgery.
“The best way to describe it is everything in my right hip was completely dead,” he said. “The bone, the labrum was gone, the cartilage was gone. My femoral head was actually being absorbed into my pelvis bone,” he described. “The doctor had said I had bone spurs on the head of the femoral, which is normal for any type of breaks or stuff.
“When he went in there, the reason it took the extra hour is because I had two particular bone spurs that were the size of his fist that were encapsulating the femoral head, and he had to take a chisel and chisel them out because they couldn’t move my leg to get the fake hip in. And he came out and told my wife, ‘I’m surprised the way that hip was when we went in there; I’m surprised he walked in here this morning.’”
During the interview, Bruiser also noted that he found out that he would need hip replacement surgery back when he first signed with ROH. He was told that he could continue to function with the hp for potentially five more years, and he finally had the issue taken care of.
As of this writing, it’s unclear whether Bruiser will be able to continue his wrestling career; Hausman noted that the doctors told Bruiser that it is a possibility, not a guarantee. As for his recovery, the doctors have said it will take about three to six months, and after approximately a year, “it will be “completely a part of my body.”
Bruiser also noted that he’s more than content working in a backstage role; he currently works as a trainer and producer for AML in North Carolina.
